Young audience creation

Création jeune public

Every summer since 2004, Jazz à Vienne kicks off with a concert for children living in the Vienne region (‘Pôle métropolitain’). 8,000 primary school pupils stream into the Théâtre Antique’s tiered seating every year to watch the first performances of a show created especially for the festival.

The idea behind this creation is to introduce young audiences to jazz music, but also to give artists the opportunity to create an interactive and entertaining show, to pass on their knowledge and musical journey, while promoting cultural heritage in a warm atmosphere. Teaching, sharing, passing on, understanding, feeling, and raising awareness are the objectives of this original and ambitious project dedicated to children.

A wide variety of formats have been presented over the years: concerts, musical storytelling, participation of classes on stage, work with amateur musicians, etc. Educational work is carried out in advance by schools, in collaboration with Jazz à Vienne and the Departmental Advisor for Music Education. This allows teachers to prepare their students for the event.

Young audience creation 2026 : Ronya  – Vincent Peirani

Next summer, Vincent Peirani will take pupils on a journey into the world of Ronya, a musical tale inspired by Astrid Lindgren’s novel Ronja, the Robber's Daughter. This Scandinavian tale, rich in adventure and emotion, tells the story of Ronya, a fearless young girl born in the heart of a robber’s fortress, which is split in two by a storm on the night of her birth. Ronya grows up amid the laughter of outlaws and the mysteries of the Scandinavian forest. She befriends Birk, the son of the rival clan. Their friendship brings up old grudges and hatreds from the past, leading them on an adventure where they must choose between family loyalty and the quest for freedom.

With Ronya, music and theater come together in a vibrant fresco. Julie Sicard, from the Comédie-Française, and Sanseverino embody the voices of the story, surrounded by the combined energies of the Journal Intime and Jokers ensembles, directed by Vincent Peirani. Two choirs, children and adults, bring the forest, creatures, and brigands to life.

The show is open to the general public!
