Tatanka
Tatanka
In 2024, the Tatanka trio invited musician Carole Marque-B. Kaftandjian to join them on duduk for a new and original repertoire. This encounter, the trio's free-flowing musical freedom, and the sounds of traditional Armenian and Turkish instruments promise new sonic flavors and exciting discoveries on this new path. Tatanka is a remarkable trio of explorers, traversing inner landscapes and sonic territories with the same adventurous grace. Founded by trumpeter Emmanuelle Legros in 2017, Tatanka means "bison" in the Sioux language: a word evoking nature and wide-open spaces, which this trio perfectly captures in its jazz flights of fancy. With their second album, Forêts, released in 2022, Tatanka took their already well-established taste for exploring the physical, sensory, and sonic worlds a step further. From figurative melodies to more abstract motifs, the piano and Fender Rhodes provide perfect accompaniment to the driving rhythms of the drums, as well as to the velvety sound and clear vocalizations of the trumpet. Rich in its attention to detail (see the use of toy instruments and music boxes), refined when it expands its scope and embraces the fresco format, Tatanka's music abounds with nuances that fuel a highly singular means of poetic expression. Following the well-received albums Baïkal (2018) and Forêts (2022), and over 50 concerts, they received support from Le Périscope in 2021 (residency and production), a year-long residency with Jazz dans le Bocage in 2022, and from JAZZ(s)RA as finalists for the Rezzo Jazz à Vienne competition in 2023.
