“Tomorrow Comes The Harvest”
Jeff Mills

Who does not remember the splendid performance of Jeff Mills with the saxophonist Émile Parisien on the stage of the Théâtre Antique, at Jazz à Vienne, in 2017? The legendary DJ from Detroit has always had a deep passion for “free” sounds and the magic spells of improvisation, combined with the soul he has skilfully and lovingly been playing on his machines since his beginnings, at the dawn of the 90s. With the eclectic keyboarder Jean-Phi Dary, Jeff Mills spreads brilliantly hypnotic grooves, like in his captivating album Evolution, released in 2023. The music is spontaneous and surprising. Most pieces take time to develop, unfolding treasures of invention: this duo becomes one with the audience and takes it to visit territories where dance is an integral part of the experience. With Tomorrow Comes The Harvest, there is no doubt that those two explorers will captivate the public at the Théâtre Antique!

Line-up :

  • Jeff Mills (machines, percussion)
  • Jean-Phi Dary (keyboards)

Sun Ra Arkestra

Sun Ra Arkestra

Last year, the release of the splendid album Lights On A Satellite of Sun Ra Arkestra proved once again that the spirit of the great and visionary conductor, who passed away in 1993, is still present on Earth. “First, my music will scare people. It embodies happiness and they are not used to it", declared the artist born in Birmingham (Alabama). But the public has not been frightened by his music for a long time, as it offers so much joy: there is no equivalent in the jazz scene. Under the supervision of devoted messengers, formerly John Gilmore and the centenarian Marshall Allen today, Sun Ra Arkestra continues to keep alive a music deeply rooted in all histories of jazz, from the Ellington-inspired gesture to “free” changes, offered by great soloists. If you go to a concert of Sun Ra Arkestra, you will live a unique experience, “on the Sun Ra side of the scene”: you will be immersed in infinite light sources of a work where the freer and the craziest sounds celebrate the stellar beauty. You cannot miss it.

Génération Spedidam
VERB

Let’s make some room for the young generation with VERB: this trio was born during a jam session which became a musical adventure. Noam Duboille on the piano and Charles Thuillier on the double bass. Both of them had classical and jazz influences. The drummer Garcia Etoa Ottou is a self-taught man who learned gospel in Yaoundé. He brings an organic and bright beat. Together, they reinvent the spirit of the great trios, like Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson or Keith Jarrett, without giving in to nostalgia and imitation. Rezzo Jazz à Vienne 2023 laureates and Génération Spedidam artists 2025-2027, they recorded a first record under the Komos label, revealing an already mature writing and a strong sense of the collective listening. For their second concert at the Théâtre Antique, VERB will present its new compositions: a lively jazz which is elegant and strongly contemporary.

Line-up :
