Maguiba
Maguiba
Maguiba is a band from Lyon formed in June on the initiative of drummer Baptiste Bordier, the project’s founder and driving force. The original idea was both simple and ambitious: to bring jazz back into the mainstream, take it out of its closed circles, and make it accessible, direct, and vibrant once again. The core of the group brings together members with deliberately contrasting backgrounds. Marco Zucca, a self-taught Italian pianist, brings an instinctive style, forged far from academic frameworks. Guilhem Mercadal, also a self-taught bassist, anchors the music in an organic approach, attentive to the groove as much as to the collective balance. Odenson Laurent, a conservatory-trained trombonist, joined the group shortly after its formation and completes the ensemble with solid instrumental mastery and a confident melodic voice. Maguiba moves forward without artificial hierarchy or gratuitous showmanship. Above all, the group seeks a form of sonic sincerity: to play music as pure as possible, stripped of affectation and unnecessary effects. Jazz is conceived here as an open, accessible language, capable of speaking to all ears without compromising its artistic standards. Music designed to flow, breathe, and be shared, to be experienced on the Cybèle stage.
