Lea Maria Fries
Lea Maria Fries
Lea Maria Fries presents CLEO, inspired by the powerful queen Cleopatra and by the women of her family in Switzerland. The singer-songwriter Lea Maria Fries (to be pronounced “free-s”) took a long time before releasing this first album under her own name, with the complicity of the pianist Gauthier Toux and the drummer Julien Herné. In an intimate experimental workshop, “homemade”, the trio created a dense musical paste which is full of contrasts and inspired by her research and her influences: Shirley Horn, Meshell Ndegeocello, Björk, Radiohead or Marc Ribot. Using those textures, Lea Maria Fries sings her words, fears and strengths, in French, English, German, and even in her native language: Swiss German. Despite the purity of her voice, Lea-Maria Fries is full of energy, like her scenic presence.
