Since 2010, marimba music and traditional songs from the South Pacific have been part of the UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. As an expert of this rich musical culture, the Colombian percussionist Juan Carlos Arrechea has placed the marimba de chonta (made of wood) at the centre of his new quartet. He combines the traditional sounds of this emblematic instrument from the Colombian Pacific Coast, with jazz and other musical traditions that he and his musicians have discovered during their journey. To enhance the party, a bombo (large drum), a cununo and an electric double bass join the marimba in a joyful mix with his Afro-Colombian roots. An enthusiastic world, captivating rhythms and a warm ancient music, updated with inventiveness and jubilation!
