Alba Careta
Alba Careta
The Alba Careta group presents Panical, a fourth album that transforms cultural heritage into creative energy and confirms Alba as one of Spain’s most prominent jazz artists and composers, already a leading figure on the European jazz scene. In this new chapter, Alba draws inspiration from the earth itself, guided by the strength of her roots and by the female figures who set the rhythm for this work. The panical, or wild thistle, is a plant native to Catalonia—beautiful yet full of thorns, tough to the touch but blooming with its own strength. This image becomes the album’s symbol: a tribute to resilience and wild beauty, inspired by strong, rebellious women who remain true to themselves. Women who, like the thistle, grew up in difficult environments and left their mark on a world that often did not expect them. The album, produced by renowned pianist Shai Maestro—known for his work with the Avishai Cohen Trio and other international projects—combines original compositions with fresh interpretations of Nova Cançó classics, reimagined through a contemporary and personal jazz language. The result is a solid work, marked by clear melodies, precise energy, and a cohesive ensemble sound of remarkable quality. The quintet consists of Alba Careta (trumpet and vocals), Lucas Martínez (tenor saxophone), Roger Santacana (piano), Giuseppe Campisi (double bass), and Jordi Pallarés (drums). Together, they create a balanced, expressive, and accessible sound, capable of connecting with audiences at both jazz festivals and multidisciplinary venues seeking quality and identity.
