Nils Petter Molvaer & Gauthier Toux

Nils Petter Molvær & Gauthier Toux / For a word

It didn’t take long for Gauthier Toux to establish himself as one of the most promising young pianists of French-speaking jazz, with his eclectic culture bringing Michel Petrucciani, Brad Mehldau, hip-hop (The Roots, J Dilla) and electronic music together. If all these influences were languages, Gauthier Toux could call himself multilingual. His first three albums as a trio are testament to this open-mindedness: the interplay and collective energy of the trio nicely highlight the pianist’s touch and his taste for dreamy harmonies and introspective moods. In 2018, with his quartet For A Word, he delved deeper into his electr(on)ic influences, crafting dreamy sounds with a hint of darkness. Each year, the Talents Jazz Adami programme gives a young artist the opportunity to collaborate with a world-renowned artist of his choice in the creation of an original live performance. For the 2021 edition, Gauthier Toux invited Nils Petter Molvaer, a prominent figure of Norwegian jazz. The trumpet player is seen as a precursor in the fusion of jazz and electronic music and his singular style shines like a beacon to the European jazz scene since his debut in the mid-1990s. Get ready for a one-off collaboration heralding a journey through untracked territories, where improvisation and sound architecture overlap.
