Martha High

Martha High is a legendary witness and guardian of funk music’s history. At first, nothing marked her out for the exceptional career she has forged over the course of her life. She started singing at church where she soon met the members of her future female vocal band, The Jewels. They had their little successes and played nice venues when one night, they caught the eye and ear of a very special spectator: James Brown! The Godfather of Soul took them on tour and Martha High, who was 18 years old at the time, became one of his favourite backing singers - and regular hairdresser. He kept her in his team for over thirty years and helped her record her very first album, before she decided to try her luck under her own name. The singer still carries the music of the one she calls "Mister Brown" inside herself, but she has since then built her own path and joined new musical families. Her latest album 'Nothing's Going Wrong' was recorded in 2020 with the Italian Royal Family. On stage, she will be seen with the Soul Cookers trio, who regularly played with her on her European tours. Be sure the goddess of soul still has a lot to say...
