Jon Batiste
James Andrews / Anne Paceo / Sélène Saint-Aimé / Tiss Rodriguez
Following the cancellation of Big Freedia’s European tour, initially scheduled to open the New Orleans evening at the Théâtre Antique, the concert has been replaced by a brand-new creation presented by the New Orleans Jazz Museum, featuring James Andrews, Anne Paceo, Sélène Saint-Aimé and Tiss Rodriguez.
Jon Batiste
We still remember his amazing performance in his native Louisiana, when he was chosen to sing the American national anthem during the Super Bowl 2025. Born in a renowned family of New Orleans, Jon Batiste is a phenomenon: the public discovered this gifted pianist, singer and songwriter on the American TV, where he was leading the band with his insane energy in The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He worked with the star Beyoncé before becoming a star himself: he already won seven Grammy Awards and he is not even forty! This complete artist also received an Oscar for the music of the animated film Soul. We are more than happy to exclusively welcome him at Jazz à Vienne for his first performance in a French festival and his first concert outside of Paris. And we still do not know what we will like most about him: his incredible virtuosity as a pianist, the captivating flexibility of his voice or his amazing scenic presence!
James Andrews / Anne Paceo / Sélène Saint-Aimé / Tiss Rodriguez
Gathered on stage for the first time for a brand-new Jazz à Vienne creation presented by the New Orleans Jazz Museum, these four artists and their unique styles come together around a shared desire: to celebrate their musical heritage and open it up to new interpretations. In Vienne, as in New Orleans, music is connected to his family. For James Andrews, trumpeter and key figure in this unique project, this is even more true. Grandson of composer Jessie Hill and older brother of Trombone Shorty, the regular guest of French venues spreads his passion for partying and sharing with a great generosity and a bright energy. His repertoire is composed of timeless classics that everyone will love. For the occasion, the Tremé native surrounded himself with three former residents of the Villa Albertine: drummer, composer and conductor Anne Paceo, whom the audience rediscovered last summer as the festival’s opening act with her Atlantis project, the young percussionist and composer Tiss Rodriguez, and the singer and double bassist Sélène Saint-Aimé, whose musical world draws on the traditions of her African-descendant ancestors. On stage, they will be joined by three musicians straight from Louisiana (Greg Hicks, Sam Dickey and Victor Campbell), with whom the jazz and spirit of New Orleans will resonate within the walls of the Théâtre Antique.
