Performance from the “Brass Band & Danse du tout-monde” workshop
Brass Band & Danse du tout-monde
The Brass Band and World Dance workshops come together through collaborative sessions that blend music and dance, offering an immersion into the world of New Orleans.
True institutions in New Orleans, brass bands have preserved the original spirit of jazz and the second line while evolving under the influence of other styles (R&B, funk, hip-hop, pop music, Afro-Caribbean influences…). Passionate about this musical culture and its transmission, the musicians of the Skokiaan Brass Band invite you to a unique immersion, based on oral tradition, singing, improvisation, and the arrangement techniques specific to brass bands. In this space of solidarity, sharing, creativity, and freedom, each participant learns to play together, to make the repertoire their own, and to explore movement.
From New Orleans second line footwork to hip-hop moves and grooves, funk, and Afro, all the way to elements of traditional African and Caribbean dances, the Danses du tout-monde artistic residency invites you to dance, celebrate, and let loose, while immersing yourself in a heritage of dances and rhythms rich in history that bring continents together. This is an opportunity to prepare for the opening of the Cybèle Ball with the musicians of the Brass Band residency, and to become part of the ball at the same time.
