À propos de l’édition
Sarah Vaughan had the privilege of opening the festival – which was now nine days long. Cab Calloway and his big band, the Williams Brothers and wonderful dancers recreated the Cotton Club atmosphere. Manhattan Transfer’s concert was broadcast live on national television. Stan Getz, Chick Corea, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Michael Brecker, Didier Lockwood, Ben E. King, Tito Puente and Manu Dibango rounded off a prestigious line-up with the Modern Jazz Quartet (John Lewis tried in vain to prevent his musicians from mixing Côte-Rotie and Coca-Cola). A rare concert with Horace Tapscott and George Russell left a deep impression on the history of the festival.
