Jazz sur la ville (‘Jazz on the city’)
Discover performances by music schools and conservatoires from across the region on the Table Ronde stage.
There is a strong focus on educational projects, with a stage exclusively dedicated to music education institutions and their students.
Young musicians will thus have the opportunity to perform on one of the stages at the Jazz à Vienne festival, under professional stage conditions. Highlights include: ensembles from the Vienne Conservatoire de Musique et de Danse, projects from the ENM de Villeurbanne, the Conservatoire Hector Berlioz CAPI, the Chasse-sur-Rhône music school, the CRR de Lyon, the Saint-Fons music school, the Conservatoire de Feyzin, the CRR de Saint-Étienne, the Limonest music school…
For the past four years, Jazz à Vienne has been brightening up the city’s streets with decorations created by volunteers and people using local community facilities. The craft workshops, which begin in February at the Festival Centre, are a real opportunity for sharing and socialising.
The richness of this project lies in the diversity of participants: older people, people with disabilities, French language learners, those on integration programmes, volunteers, schoolgirls, children… To bring this initiative to fruition, nearly 90 workshops are run both at the festival offices and at partner organisations and schools in Vienne, during after-school hours. All the decorations are made from recycled materials, thanks to the support of local businesses which provide the necessary raw materials.
This year marks the start of new collaborations with the École Supérieure d’Art et Design de Saint-Étienne and the agricultural college, Lycée Agrotec de Vienne-Seyssuel. The pupils have been working on the design of temporary installations, from which Jazz à Vienne has selected several projects. These will be created by the pupils themselves, either at their schools or at the Festival House during the workshops. The public will thus be able to discover the musical curtain, floor murals, hanging bunting, as well as concrete casts of silhouettes inspired by the 2026 visual identity…
Children will also have the chance to make little flowers from scraps of coloured mattress fabric! Finally, the shop windows of participating businesses will be decorated by Vienne-based artists, helping to spread the spirit of the festival throughout the town!
Among the flagship projects:
- The large mural on the steps of Saint-Maurice Cathedral
- The Pentacomix, a sound and light installation created by the Collectif le Village
- The wave of bunting, Rue des Orfèvres and Rue Clémentine
- The hanging lampshades and coat hangers, Cours Romestang
