Emma Rawicz
Emma Rawicz
Energy and poetry. Here is what we feel in the music of the British saxophonist Emma Rawicz. Her last album Inkyra embodies those two elements that she will develop with her band at the Club. "There is always something to learn with jazz”, she says. Learning by experimenting and researching. Letting go pushes her into creating a dreamy world. Emma Rawicz makes us think about her music with images. Here, a crowd in motion (“Particles of Change”). And there, northern lights (“Earthrise”). Or even the blue of a marine world (“Time and Other Thieves”). She has many references: Wayne Shorter, Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Joe Zawinul, etc. She discovered those jazz leaders when she was 15, after learning the basics of piano, violin and guitar. Then, she started playing the saxophone and she understood it was her instrument: “The first time I made a sound with it, it was really a great moment”, she admits with humility. At the age of 24, she can boast about having taken the best courses, including at the Royal Academy of Music, but also about having played in the greatest clubs of London and in some prestigious European festivals. Her performance in Vienne is a real event!
