Courses & workshops 2026
Take part in the courses and workshops offered during the two weeks of the festival: new musical experiences for all ages and all levels.
True institutions in New Orleans, brass bands have preserved the original spirit of jazz and second line while evolving under the influence of other styles (R&B, funk, hip-hop, pop music, Afro-Caribbean influences…). Passionate about this musical culture and its transmission, the musicians of the Skokiaan Brass Band invite you to a unique immersion based on oral tradition, singing, improvisation, and brass band arrangement techniques. In this space of solidarity, sharing, creativity, and freedom, each participant learns to play together, to appropriate the repertoire, and to explore movement. The course is closely linked to Marie Houdin’s dance course, with joint working sessions that will culminate in a performance combining music and dance to celebrate the energy and joy of being together.

From New Orleans second line footwork to hip-hop moves and grooves, funk, and Afro, to elements of traditional African and Caribbean dance, the amateur artistic residency Danses du tout-monde invites young and old alike to dance, celebrate, and have fun while immersing themselves in a heritage of dances and rhythms steeped in history that bring continents together. This is an opportunity to prepare for the opening of the Cybèle ball with the musicians of the Brass Band residency, and to become part of the ball at the same time.

In this introductory short course, rhythm will be at the heart of artistic practice. Over 5 half-days, through various rhythmic and choreographic group games, children will be both dancers and musicians as they attempt to harmonize their beats together!

Deepen your knowledge of jazz and improvisation by immersing yourself in the world of Miles Davis, who will be honored at this 45th edition of Jazz à Vienne. For 5 days, come and perfect your skills with his repertoire, as part of a real big band. This course is open to all musicians who have completed their secondary education and already have some experience of improvisation. Wind instruments, strings, rhythm section, vocals... We look forward to seeing you there to share a wonderful musical adventure together!
