In the first track of her debut album “Who Is Jill Scott ? Words And Sounds Vol. 1”, Jill Scott sang: “I love to write poetry. My inspiration? It comes from listening to Hip-Hop, it comes from R&B, it comes from Jazz”. This year is the 20th anniversary of this album and Jill Scott will perform all 17 songs live (hidden track Try included!). The album was released on July 18, 2000, and was soon promoted as a neo soul classic. But who was Jill Scott at the beginning of the 21st century? She was a young singer, born in April 4, 1972 in the “City of brotherly love”, i.e. Philadelphia. She started her career as a spoken word artist and was discovered by Ahmir Thompson, the drummer of The Roots. She co-wrote the song You Got Me in 1999, a hit song the hip-hop band eventually performed with… Erykah Badu.

One year later, “Who Is Jill Scott? Words And Sounds Vol. 1” received unanimous critical acclaim and went platinum in the United-States. Thanks to Jill Scott, soul music made a resounding entrance in the modern era, anchored in the 1970s hip-hop groove and passion for melodies. “I will create musical arrangements for the songs purposed with new energy. […] Expect incredible musicianship. Expect love.”, said Scott. Who wants to sing along on Gettin’ In The Way, It’s Love, Do You Remember, Love Rain, and many others? Let’s get ready for collective explosion of joy in the Roman Theatre!
