This year’s festival was the first visit to Vienne by Keith Jarrett in a trio, with Pat Metheny as the opening act. The year was marked by Cuban music and major ensembles, with Lionel Hampton, Gil Evans and François Jeanneau’s ONJ. McCoy Tyner, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Carla Bley and Herbie Hancock were also at the party for another Brazil evening with Milton Nasciment and Hermeto Pascoal. For the first time, concerts were broadcast on national television.
